Potty
Training
We will assist
you in making your child's potty training a positive aspect of his/her
development. Please be patient and understanding of your
child...they may not be as ready as you are! We will endeavor to
make this a pleasant experience for your child by handling it in a
positive manner. We encourage you to begin this process as soon as
your child is showing interest. It is our policy that a child must
be completely potty trained by age three to be included on our field
trips.
SIGNS OF READINESS
FOR POTTY TRAINING:
-
It is best for the
child if parents begin the potty training at home, prior to beginning
at daycare. We especially recommend that potty training be
followed through on a set routine during the weekend.
-
Your child should
be dressed in clothing that is easily removed, such as sweat
pants. This encourages them to do it themselves and helps to
develop independence. Your child will also be taught to wash
his/her hands after bathroom time.
-
The first step on
readiness is when the child begins to let us know that he/she is
uncomfortable with wet or soiled diapers.
-
The second step is
preparing the child to be willing to go into the bathroom and sit on
the potty.
-
After beginning
potty training, the child should be put into pull-ups, and taken to
the potty on a regularly basis (hourly). Diapers should still be
used at naptime.
-
If after a two week
trail period of potty training, the child is still resisting or having
several accidents a day, we encourage you to discontinue potty
training for a few weeks and then try again.
-
Potty
"accidents" that occur on a regular basis will require our
staff to put you child in "pull-ups"!
-
We will consider
the child to be completely potty-trained when he/she is able to consistently
tell us when they have to go to the bathroom.
